Bertie Schamrel
Managing Director
Holder of a Master Ticket and active yachtsman for over 5 years. Experience include Captaining Motor and Sailing Yachts with an excess of 8 000 sea miles. Experience in business and property development. Founding member and shareholder of Technosmart247 and Yachtsmart Maritime Academy. I am excited about the future of the Yachting Industry and inspired by the youth who are the pillars of this fast growing industry. Duncan C. Maple
Chief Engineer
Duncan started his career in Engineering as a cadet with Safmarine in 1976 and progressed to Captain/Chief Engineer of large commercial boats with over 30 years in the marine industry. Being a qualified OOW Engineer Unlimited and holding a Master of Yachts 200T Unlimited CoC he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
Dr. derek lambert
Chief Engineer (Unlimited CoC)
Derek Lambert spent 22 years at sea as a Marine Engineering Officer, serving for eight years as a Chief Engineer, a period which he was involved with the commissioning of four new build-ships. In 2012, he joined the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as the Head of the Marine Engineering Program, lecturing Second and Chief Engineering Officers. He obtained his PhD from World Maritime University in Malmö Sweden in 2017, specialising in digital learning systems for remote seagoing officer study. He has published 5 textbooks to date that form the Marine Engineering syllabus at the maritime institutions in South Africa.
Danie Ludick
Shareholder
Danie is a lecturer at Stellenbosch University with over 6 additional years of industry experience. He completed his PhD in 2012 and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University. He is also an entrepreneur and co-founded three firms in the field of web-based development, remote monitoring and online learning
Willie Smit
Shareholder
Willie has been involved in engineering education for the last 10 years. He completed his PhD in 2008 and is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University. His research interests are robotics, control systems and education.
Dianne Schamrel

Yachtsmart Maritime Academy is excited to announce their newest Team Member Dianne Schamrel! After 25 years in the Airline industry, Dianne holds a Cum Laude Butler Certificate achieved at an Internationally Butler training School. This equipped her with all the necessary skills to offer her services/best training to our students. Dealing with juniors Dianne gets to play an important part in the beginning of someone’s career and their journey in life. We know Dianne will bring enthusiasm and warmth to help us better serve you!
